"One day, none will stand against you."
When these words were first spoken to Shadyia, she could not believe them. How could a courtesan be the progeny of a goddess?
When Shadyia is commanded by her madam to seduce a wealthy and mysterious scholar, she becomes ensnared in an ancient conflict between gods, villains, heroes and magicians. The scholar, Aaron of Featherquill, searches for an enchanted treasure rumored to be entombed in a mysterious labyrinth, but he has no idea where the entrance to those ancient halls can be found. Fortunately, Shadyia's playful and mischievous lover, Deresi, does. It's her greatest secret.
Into all this slithers Demos Azari. The adviser to a vicious order of crusading knights, Demos schemes to entice Shadyia into a devious plot that will force Aaron to surrender his most prized possession. To thwart Demos and his crusaders, Shadyia will descend into the labyrinth. Accompanied by Aaron and Deresi, she must survive its deadly traps and shadow guardians to prevent a brutal demigod of chaos from returning to consume the world.
Beneath the Silver Rose begins Shadyia’s ascension into the heroine she was meant to become.

I could very easily waffle on for ages here, but I won't. I'll just tell you that I read this, was captivated within the first few pages, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Beneath the Silver Rose Shadyia Ascendant Book 1 eBook TS Adrian
FOR 18+ ONLY! Shadyia is a sister of the Silver Rose brothel in the realm of Anderholm and is a favorite of the Lord William Querry, but when the King’s uncle, Lord Dunstan, comes to the Silver Rose to take and enjoy Shadyia violently as vengeance for losing a horse race to Lord Querry, Shadyia’s self-defensive reactions killing Lord Dunstan puts the Silver Rose at risk. Meanwhile, as betrayal and deception brings upheaval to the Silver Rose, Shadyia is commanded by her superior, as well as extorted by a dangerous spirit voice, to entice a mysteriously wealthy historian and magician, Aaron of Featherquill, to be charmed by her wiles and guide him to what will be a dangerous quest in a hidden labyrinth under the city. This was a well-constructed epic first book of a medieval fantasy that uses a “Game of Thrones” style of power-hungry characters within a parallel world of swords, shadows, magic, kings, godlike beings, and vicious monsters to draw fantasy readers in. Our ascendant heroes in this tale are not presented as members of ruling families, providing a more “one-of-us” empathetic saga, but the heroes are also constantly debating whether they are being guided by good or deceptive thoughts in their quest. In this way, the background mythology is presented within the mystery of the plot, leaving the reader to wonder about the right path as well. Some actions and consequences were questionable, but only at the quibbling level. Secondary adult themes of sexual equality, as well as sexual orientation, are addressed plainly within the journey, so I recommend this for adult readers. Even though this is only the first book in a saga series, the nearly 500 pages is a very complex read in itself. The ebook version I read includes the first chapter of the second book, which I found to be a better final chapter of the opening book in the series, as it provided an opening resolution to an immediate cliffhanger, while still leaving an inviting taste to the greater challenge to be faced by our emerging heroes.Product details

Beneath the Silver Rose Shadyia Ascendant Book 1 eBook TS Adrian Reviews
This might not be the first book to open with a petty prince abusing courtesans and getting his comeuppance at the end of one's sword, but you know from the start that it's probably the best of them.
Shadyia is brave, loyal, and just the right fraction larger than life-- with a reason for it, of course. More than that, this is a book that offers quick thrills but takes its time to build to something larger. Just what the old gods are scheming... or why there's a cursed tower in the center of town... or who leads the Silver Rose... all of those move in the background and work their way onto the stage in time.
"A mage, a warrior, and a thief walk into a dungeon..."
There are too many things about this novel that I enjoyed to name just one. It is, quite possibly, one of the most unique stories I've read in awhile. At the risk of being labeled with misogyny, I have to say that I don't put a lot of stock in books where the main character is female in fantasy fiction. Too often they are some angst ridden, confused, girl that falls in love with a supernatural being. Not so here! The main character is strong, the supporting characters are equally as strong in their own rights. The story is well convoluted and moves at a pace that doesn't allow your interest to flag from start to finish. It's a good thing I'm off work for awhile because I stayed up all night reading this and am purchasing book two as soon as I finish the review. Do yourself a favor and buy it. You'll enjoy!
Beneath the Silver Rose is a strong start to what promises to be an exciting series full of mystery and action. Shadyia is a courtesan, but she’s not just any courtesan. She’s feisty, loyal and tough. The book opens with a terrible choice for Shadyia, either she allows a noble to humiliate and beat her as a petty revenge toward a rival noble who enjoys Shadyia’s company, or she strikes him down and endangers the lives of all the sisters she lives and works with. What she chooses to do in this moment will have lasting repercussions throughout the entire first novel in the series, repercussions that effect not only those who work in the Silver Rose, Shadyia’s place of employment, but also other players in a far more deadly game for power.
Over the course of the story, we learn that there’s a lot more at stake than just the fates of Shadyia’s sisters. Fairly quickly, we are introduced to dark forces that are centuries old. This ancient power is busy manipulating the world around Shadyia without her knowledge. We catch glimpses of what this being is doing as Shadyia struggles to survive with her decisions and the changing atmosphere at the Silver Rose. Needless to say, Shadyia faces more problems than the ire of the nobility.
T.S. Adrian has deftly created a rich world in which to play out this tale of intrigue. Characters are full of life, settings are detailed and varied and the history of the world Shadyia inhabits is full of interesting lore. Adrian’s narrative style is almost conversational, as if each time the narrator takes control, you’re actually peeking through a characters eyes, without resorting to using first person, giving the story a well-rounded feel with many perspectives to explore.
There’s a fun twist around the half-way point related to these inner thoughts that I won’t spoil for you. I had one of those “A-ha” moments as I read the reveal. It’s clever and made me wonder if I should start all over with a more careful eye to detail to fully examine the central mystery of Beneath the Silver Rose. The conceit Adrian uses is genuinely one of the more interesting things I’ve read in a book in quite some time.
The pacing of the book is brisk – you won’t find the story lagging as Shadyia bolts from one challenge to the next. There’s lots of excitement to be found among the pages of Beneath the Silver Rose, whether it’s detailed sword training that has a breathless feel to it, or exploring for the secrets beneath the Silver Rose late in the book. Adrian keeps the movement flowing and as a reader, I couldn’t help but be swept up in the current, reading late into the night to figure out what happened next.
I have one note of caution to potential readers; Shadyia’s journey is dark and twisty. The book is not for the faint of heart. If you prefer your fantasy lighter, seek more whimsical fare. Shadyia’s life, and the lives of those around her, is unpleasant and full of hardships. It’s a tough look at what life is like for a courtesan. Adrian pulls no punches in showing this. However, if books like Game of Thrones are your thing, you shouldn’t find anything objectionable as you follow Shadyia through this book.
Highly recommended for fans of dark fantasy with tough female characters and an epic feel.
